Reading Class - AR required points for 2nd quarter is 15
point. (5 of the 15 points have to be non-fiction.)
This week in Reading our class will be
starting the novel Marco Polo by Joan Holub. This is a non fiction novel the students will
be reading. Remember all novels read in
class can be tested for AR points. There
will be many skills taught with this book: comprehension, context clues,
alphabetizing to the 3rd letter, main idea, supporting details, same
meaning, blends, contractions, setting, synonyms, antonyms, dictionary and
thesaurus skills. These skills will be
taught over a 3 to 4 week period and will be incorporated with the novel.
Math Class
My Math class is learning all about repeated
addition and multiplication. Flash cards
for multiplication will be coming home to review nightly. This review is for a grade. Please sign the parent sheet each night after
reviewing the facts. Every day the
students will be taking a timing on their multiplication facts. Each time a level is passed the students will
be able to add toppings to their ice cream sundays. At the end of the timing period, we will be
celebrating their success by creating ice cream sundays and enjoying them in
class.
Science
This week we will
be starting our solar system section of Earth science. We will be creating flipbooks of the solar
system and what it contains. This will
be for a test grade.
