This week in Reading our class will be continuing the novel Marco Polo by Joan Holub.  This is a non fiction novel the students will be reading.  Remember all novels read in class can be tested for AR points.  There will be many skills taught with this book: comprehension, context clues, alphabetizing to the 3rd letter, main idea, supporting details, same meaning, blends, contractions, setting, synonyms, antonyms, dictionary and thesaurus skills.  These skills will be taught over a 3 to 4 week period and will be incorporated with the novel.

Math Class

My Math class is learning all about multiplication and division.  Flash cards for multiplication will be coming home to review nightly.  This review is for a grade.  Please sign the parent sheet each night after reviewing the facts.  Every day the students will be taking a timing on their multiplication facts.  Each time a level is passed the students will be able to add toppings to their ice cream sundays.  At the end of the timing period, we will be celebrating their success by creating ice cream sundays and enjoying them in class.

Social Studies

This week in social studies the class will be learning all about communities and their role in the community.  We will be discussing why we have laws and who enforces the laws, what is found in a community, and what resources we have in our community.
